Caramelised Shallot Dip

Caramelised shallot dip with ingredients

Creamy and luxe, you won’t look back at a packet French onion again. My simple, six ingredient recipe for the perfect dip to take to drinks with friends or the couch this weekend.


  • 75g unsalted butter
  • 7 shallots, finely diced
  • 125g cream cheese
  • 200g light sour cream
  • Sea salt
  • ¾ tbsp fresh lemon juice

Serving ideas:

  • Lavosh
  • Celery
  • Radish
  • Focaccia/sourdough/Turkish bread
  • Carrot
  • Cucumber
  • Sugar snap peas


  1. Melt butter in a medium sized pan over low heat.
  2. Add shallots and season with salt.
  3. Slowly sauté, stirring often (I set a timer on repeat for every 3 minutes), until golden brown (approx. 20-25 minutes). Allow to cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl using a whisk (or stand mixer with the paddle attachment), combine cream cheese, sour cream, a pinch of sea salt and lemon juice. Whisk/beat until smooth.
  5. Add shallots and stir to combine. Taste and season.
  6. Serve on a platter with your favourite dipping instruments .
